      Elected Officials Role in Disaster Training

      When a disaster threatens or strikes, citizens expect elected leaders and government officials to take immediate action to deal with the situation. Officials must make certain that the necessary and appropriate actions are taken to protect people and property from the consequences of emergencies and disasters. This training was established to provide officials with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively. Presenter: Joe Kelly - Minnesota Department of Public Safety - Homeland Security & Emergency Management Director This training opportunity will define the role of an elected official and senior leader during an emergency as defined under the Incident Command System (ICS) You will learn: To better define your role as an executive/senior official relative to the ICS. How to work as a team with first responders by understanding your contribution.  To hone your skills to instill confidence in the public that the incident is being effectively managed. How the state and federal disaster assistance process works. This training will be for 2.5 hours in rooms 110a, 110b and 110c on the first floor of the Dakota County Northern Service Center.
