All of us are being affected differently and each of us have challenges, some more than others. "The Collaboration" is an initiative by Aroha Afro Latin Dance to find creative solutions for single person businesses that want to continue offering services and also make an income.Our first collaboration is with Hill Thomas who is massage therapist with training in movement meditation. Bring a little balance and peace to your mind and circumstances with a 15 minute session. We will follow this 15 meditation with 15 minutes of an Afro Latin Dance style. Founder and Executive Director Adalia Bahiyyih Aroha is trained dance instructor with a Master"s Degree in Teaching. She has been teaching dance for over 10 years and has been a business owner for 5 years. The nature of dance classes requires people to be in proximity to another so they have had to discontinue onsite classes which has led to them losing their studio. All income from online classes will go toward saving for a new space once onsite classes can begin again. We thank you for generosity and for choosing to learn from us! About Guest Instructor Hill HillThomasMassageI'm very passionate about movement meditation. The general principles have existed in my life for many years in various forms. Through gymnastics, dance, swimming, and track as a child and adolescent movement has always been a go-to grounding technique. In adulthood I discovered martial arts, yoga, tai chi, qigong, and walking meditation and was thrilled to find the philosophy of mind/body/spirit balance focused on so heavily in those teachings. They tied into my profession and lifestyle as a licensed massage therapist perfectly as well. One assignment back in school involved going to get a professional massage from a local practitioner and interviewing them after. I asked him what would be his number one piece of advice to a therapist just starting out and he replied "Learn some form of martial arts, move your body". Meditation in general helps us remain calm, conscious, in tune, and adaptable; allowing us to fluidly approach whatever life throws at us. Daily movement meditations like Qigong and Tai Chi were particularly exciting as a healthy way to start fresh; to check in and set a peaceful precedent and intention for new moments. So much so that I went through a teaching certification program about 3 and 1/2 years ago in order to share these practices with as many folks as possible. Through intentional fluid movement we can improve our health and quality of life, integrate our mind, body, and spirit, increase physical awareness to receive important internal messages, and feel more comfortable and secure in our own skin. It's legitimized by modern science but is also ancient and intuitive (the best of both worlds) and I absolutely love that. Practicing daily for years has made such a drastic change in my life and i'm always extremely grateful for the chance to share that opportunity for growth and grounding with others.
