Following a brief meeting, Julie Hart of the New York Natural Heritage Program will present “New York Breeding Bird Atlas III: How You Can Experience the Joys of Atlasing.” Julie is the Atlas Project Coordinator.

It has been 20 years since the last breeding bird atlas in New York State, and a lot has changed! The third atlas will include data collected from 2020 to 2024 and involve thousands of volunteers throughout the state. Julie will cover the history of the atlas, the importance of atlas data, and how to be involved. Learn how the third atlas will differ from the previous two atlases. Atlasing is a great excuse to explore new areas and provides an intimate look into the daily lives of birds. Whether a person is new to birding or experienced, this unique opportunity will strengthen bird-watching skills while contributing valuable data to a large conservation-oriented project.

Arrive early for a Bird Identification Workshop at 7:00 p.m. with local expert Bill Ostrander. Both events are free.
