“Partial Victories, All: American Women and the Vote”

“Partial Victories, All: American Women and the Vote” asks when, exactly, did American women win the vote. Was it in 1920, when the Nineteenth Amendment was ratified, as many journalists, activists, and historians have claimed? Exploring the long history of women’s access to the ballot, Professor Robyn Muncy offers a different answer.

Robyn Muncy is Professor of History at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is the author of Creating a Female Dominion in American Reform, 1890-1935 and Relentless Reformer: Josephine Roche and Progressivism in Twentieth-Century America. She is also guest curator of the exhibit Rightfully Hers: American Women and the Vote at the National Archives in Washington, DC.

Sponsored by the History Department, C. Mildred Thompson Fund, the Library, and Women’s Studies.
